On his opening statement, he emphasized that ‘A good human resource management practitioner performs the role of a pastor and that of a parent’. In a bid to shed further light, he opined that an HR practitioner should be a confidant of the employees. He/she must seek the welfare of his/her employees. In the same vein, he should be able to perform the role of a parent by ensuring that he is fair and firm.
In a further attempt to enrich the lecture, Mr. Adediran shared his experience in P&G and Guinness Nig. Plc. According to him, an HR practitioner is a strategic partner, agent of change, administrative expert and employees’ champion. He narrated the evolution of HR thoughts: HRM started as Establishment and Administration, and later became Personnel Management. Right now, it is called Human Resource Management.
He further concluded by highlighting the key areas of HR as talent resourcing, talent development, employee engagement and Industrial Relation as well as HR service delivery.
